I’ve been thinking a lot about trash lately. My next non-fiction book is all about waste, what we can do to make less of it, and mostly, what we can do with it once we’ve got it.
Three of my favorite research resources on this topic so far are:
Dive! – a documentary about a family in L.A. that chooses to “grocery shop” primarily in dumpsters behind supermarkets because the bin is full of packaged, good-quality, high-end food, often a day before its expiry. The statistics about food waste are hard-to-swallow, but very good food for thought.
The Clean Bin Project – another documentary about two partners who compete with each other to see who can produce the least garbage in a year. Inspiring indeed!
Zero Waste Home: The Ultimate Guide to Simplifying your Life by Reducing Your Waste, by Bea Johnson – a how-to book for anyone aiming to reduce their waste and recycling.
